LearnScope 2007

Well, here am I at the first workshop for "Engaging The Learner" with Margaret Granger!!! It's so lovely to see Marlene and Elena again. And Ceris from StartUp ... I wish everyone was here. We have also had Michael Coghlan come in and spend some time with us and Allison Miller joined us via Centra and did a great presentation on how we can use Centra to engage our learners. Look at http://newlearning.wikispaces.com (Michael's site).

Centra:

Now we are in a computer room playing with Centra. I am really looking forward to see how this works when we are doing it from home and not all in the same room.

Margaret has had lots of experience with Centra and has given us some good tips on it.

  • import powerpoints/images into agenda
  • documents best shown through application share and not imported into agenda
  • let them play first on whiteboard (good idea Marlene!)
  • when you "begin session" - automatically takes markup tools and microphones from students - you will need to give these back when ready
  • open textbox down side - maybe get students to ask questions here during lecture or guest speaker
  • to talk - either (1) lock (2) hold left mouse down on little icon of man (3) hold CTRL key down when talking release when finished
  • 5-6 is a good number for the class
  • under laser pointer is "my arrow" option, this will put names against the arrow
  • you can also put a URL in the agenda and then students can explore the website independantly of you - use web safari if you want everyone looking at the same thing
Learning Objects:

http://lorn.flexiblelearning.net.au/lorn/go - Learning Object Repository Network (LORN)

These may be too big to load up on one of my Moodle classrooms but Margaret suggested I put the link into the preview onto my site.

Other Tools:

Homework:

  • email simple descriptor of your proposed project
  • centra session times
  • E the L space - add feedback to wiki
  • next workshop time
